Here at Clean, we believe in using supplements as a support tool. Eating plenty of organic produce and whole foods, moving your body regularly, and practicing stress management should remain the bread and butter to finding optimal health. If you are practicing these daily healthy habits and want to boost your results, supplementation can be a great next step. Collagen protein is one supplement we’ve talked about before and can easily be added to your morning Daily Shake.
Since our skin, hair, joints, and gut health all rely heavily on adequate collagen production, it’s not a surprise that the supplement has become popular recently. Our bodies naturally produce collagen using protein and vitamin C, however, this production naturally decreases as we age. Increasing your intake of vitamin C, especially through fresh vegetables, can naturally bump your body’s ability to create collagen, and you’ll likely notice smoother skin, less pain in your joints and improved digestion as a result. If your veggie intake is adequate, adding a collagen powder to your routine can help further.
This smoothie bowl was created as an easy way to incorporate collagen powder to your morning routine, but we didn’t stop the healing ingredients there. We’ve included avocados for their high monounsaturated fat content. Like omega 3’s, monounsaturated fats help reduce bad cholesterol (LDL), helping to maintain our heart health. Avocados also provide the body with vitamin E, magnesium, and potassium.
Blueberries give this bowl its beautiful purple hue and add an antioxidant punch as well. Blueberries have the highest antioxidant content of any fruit, specifically called anthocyanins. Anthocyanins give blueberries their color and help protect our blood vessels. It’s been shown that cow’s milk affects the body’s ability to use these antioxidants effectively, so keeping this bowl dairy-free is key for absorbing all the nutrients.
We think the flavor combinations of peaches with blueberries is perfect in this recipe. Peaches contain lutein and zeaxanthin, which both act as antioxidants to protect the body against free radicals. They also have a high potassium content, which is crucial for fluid regulation, metabolic function, and our ability to convert carbohydrates into energy.
