A mango smoothie is a great easy-to-digest meal that packs nutrients into our morning without leaving us feeling weighed down by a large breakfast. We throw in a Daily Shake or a cleanse shake featuring our all-organic antioxidant blend for the perfect start to a busy day ahead.
We paired sweet fruit with spinach for an extra dose of fiber, vitamins, and super-green-detoxifying antioxidants that won’t change the taste of our beloved fruit smoothie. We also added mint to this smoothie for an additional boost of flavor and nutrition that will have you craving this refreshing, hydrating shake from the moment you wake up.
Easy Green Add-In for a Mango Smoothie
Spinach is mild in flavor and has a soft texture, meaning a few handfuls will change the color, but not the taste of this sweet smoothie. Spinach has always been thought of as a healthy food but is often overlooked with the popularization of kale and other leafy greens.
While it may be lighter in taste, spinach is just as dense in nutrients as darker and crunchier leafy greens. The phytonutrient content is extremely high, specifically in antioxidants like lutein, zeaxanthin, and beta-carotene which our bodies convert into skin-plumping vitamin A. Phytonutrients are chemicals found specifically in plants to help protect them against their environments. A diet rich in phytonutrients has been shown to help protect us against age-related diseases. The high vitamin C content of spinach helps protect its phytonutrients, which gives us more nutritional value in every bite.
There are over a dozen flavonoid variations in spinach. Flavonoids are powerful compounds that have an antioxidant effect on the body. They are known to fight free radicals and inflammation in the body, which is important for preventing disease and slowing aging. Adding a few handfuls to our morning shake is an excellent way to send our body a dose of these nutrients every day.
Minty Mango Smoothie for Digestion
Mint adds a refreshing twist to this mango smoothie, plus many health benefits including digestive aid. Having mint in the morning is the perfect way to wake up our digestive systems and allow them to function optimally for the rest of our day. The smell and taste of mint activate the digestive enzymes in our mouths, allowing our food to go through proper digestion from the first bite (or sip).
Mint can relax the muscles that line the entire digestive track, helping our food travel with ease, so that nutrients can be properly absorbed by the body. In addition to relaxing our digestive muscles, mint has a similar effect on the lungs and respiratory channels and has been associated with relieving asthma symptoms when consumed regularly.
Mint is a stimulant, so just smelling or eating a small amount can help fight symptoms of fatigue. This smoothie would make the perfect pre-workout meal or coffee-alternative for a boost of both nutrients and energy.
Hydrate Better with Coconut Water in Your Smoothies
Hydration is a crucial habit for maintaining optimal health. Our bodies are constantly releasing fluids, and replenishing those fluids is important, particularly in the morning when we are the most dehydrated and especially when following the 21-Day Clean Program. Coconut water contains a good amount of potassium and electrolytes which are both crucial for fluid regulation in the body. It also adds a sweet, nutty flavor to our mango smoothie!
Ingredients:
1 cup fresh or frozen mango
1-3 cups spinach
1/4 cup packed mint
1/2 cup coconut water
1/2 cup coconut milk
1 tablespoon chia seeds
1 packet vanilla Cleanse packet or Daily Shake
Handful of ice
Directions:
Prepare ingredients. Skin and chop mango. Wash spinach. Remove mint leaves from their stems and rinse them with water.
Place all ingredients in a blender. Blend on high until smooth (30-60 seconds).
Pour and serve immediately. Sprinkle chia seeds on top of your smoothie if desired!
