We recently talked about the benefits of CBD oil. This CBD dessert recipe is infused with healthy and beneficial ingredients like CBD, ghee, and collagen but it tastes just like snickerdoodle cookie dough. These CBD protein balls are perfect for an evening snack, dessert, or a quick bite post-workout. They store well in the refrigerator, so make a large batch to enjoy all week long.

What Exactly Is CBD?

Officially known as cannabidiol, CBD is a compound found in the cannabis plant. Studies have shown that when extracted from the plant, CBD has an array of medical uses which is why the compound is currently popping up everywhere from dog treats to coffee shops throughout the US.

Unlike marijuana, CBD is not a hallucinogenic, meaning it does not get you “high” (specifically the THC in marijuana is the compound that creates this feeling). This is the main reason why CBD is sold over the counter, even in areas where marijuana is not sold legally. CBD can be extracted from both marijuana and hemp plants, so it is easily found even where marijuana is not grown.

How Does CBD Impact the Body?

The human body’s endocannabinoid system has receptors that interact directly with cannabinoids, and specifically CBD. So even though CBD does not intoxicate humans, it does have many reactions with the endocannabinoid system, which is how we reap the medicinal impact. One of the first discoveries that made us notice CBD was its anticonvulsant effects, meaning it has the potential to help treat epilepsy and seizures.

CBD has a neurological impact on humans and has the potential to treat Alzheimer’s, Multiple Sclerosis, and Parkinson’s. The reason why it’s believed that CBD can help with neurological diseases is that it helps to protect nerve cells from degeneration.

One reason why marijuana is often used for chronic pain is partially due to its CBD content. CBD on its own can be just as impactful on pain without the hallucinogenic side effects. Studies have paired CBD with morphine and have shown CBD to be able to reduce the use of morphine in patients with acute pain. CBD also boasts the ability to fight tumors and helps to slow the progression of a variety of cancers. Specifically, CBD simply makes it harder for cancer cells to grow.

Improve your mood

Beyond its laundry list of medicinal abilities, CBD is commonly used to calm and prevent anxiety. It’s ability to treat ailments such as anxiety and PTSD make it an excellent supplement for anyone struggling with mood disorders.

Typically when being used for culinary or consumption purposes, you’ll find CBD in oil form and can simply drop it into drinks, desserts, soups, or consume it straight! A good rule of thumb, as with any new supplement, is start with a dosage around 25mg and increasing or decreasing as you feel comfortable.
