This Antioxidant Smoothie Is Amazing For Your Skin

Smoothies are extremely versatile, simple, and you can mix-and-match different ingredients you have on hand. This smoothie recipe is all about antioxidant-rich foods, so we included wild blueberries and acai. These two berries are nutritional powerhouses. Paired with low-glycemic fruits and vegetables and our Vanilla Daily Shake, this antioxidant smoothie is an awesome way to boost your cellular and skin health.

Antioxidant Power

Blueberries receive their deep blue color from the phytonutrients called anthocyanidins. These phytonutrients are important with preventing and neutralizing free radical damage in our cells. They are the shields that ward off potentially harmful intruders from entering your body.

What’s another benefit of the antioxidants found in blueberries? The American Institute for Cancer Research states, “We now know that blueberries are one of the best sources of antioxidants, substances that can slow the aging process and reduce cell damage.” They also reduce the risk of heart disease, varicose veins, and peptic ulcers. Antioxidants help to calm down and prevent inflammation within your body.

Ah-Sigh-Ee Berry

This Amazonian indigenous berry, which has been all the rage these days, acai, has always traditionally been used as a powerfully healing and energy-boosting food. These berries also prevent diseases related to oxidative damage and have two times the number of antioxidants found in blueberries!

We wanted to add more of an antioxidant punch to this smoothie so we added in some spinach and Camu Camu berry powder. This berry also comes from the Amazon in South America, and as well as being rich in antioxidants it also contains a huge amount of vitamin C, which is great for your skin and organs.

Heart healthy foods

Why are antioxidant-rich foods so important to include in your diet? They help protect your cells, heart, DNA and keep you looking young and fresh by reducing inflammation and slowing down the aging process. Our bodies are extremely resilient but in order to be prepared for this type of strength, it’s important to nourish your body properly with beneficial foods. This smoothie is creamy, lightly sweetened, and filling. I like to use half avocado and half cauliflower to add more creaminess and healthy fats, and less sugar.

Ingredients:

2 scoops of Vanilla Daily Shake (or Cleanse Shake)
½ ripe avocado
½ cup frozen cauliflower
1 handful organic spinach
½ cup frozen wild blueberries
1 tsp. acai powder
1 tsp Camu Camu powder
1 cup almond milk
