As we know, the benefits of Activity go far beyond small waists and sculpted arms. The key to Activity is consistency. So how do we make this happen? How do we get ourselves to show up for our health day after day? The answer: by making it as easy and enjoyable as possible. Enter, the apartment workout.
Working out at home can solve loads of problems—you save time commuting to and from the gym, you can save money by not spending on a gym membership, you can work out whenever you want, you don’t have to step foot in a locker room, and you don’t need to lug all of your sweaty clothes around in a gym bag. I mean, who doesn’t like working out in their pajamas? And of course, it makes hopping in the shower and whipping up our Daily Clean Shake right after way easier too.
But, when you live in a super small space, exercising at home can sometimes feel difficult, but it doesn’t have to be. At home, workouts can be effective, sweaty, convenient, and fun.
Compounding the right simple bodyweight Activitys is an amazing way to get in a good workout. No equipment necessary.
Try this simple and effective routine:
30-sec reverse lunges
30-sec march in place
30-sec plank
30-sec squats
30-sec pushups
30-sec sit-ups
30-sec glute bridge
Rest for 1 minute, and repeat 4 times through
Of course, sometimes we want some guidance. It’s always nice to just follow along and let someone else lead the way. There are tons of amazing online resources out there now, with a wide range of workout videos.
Here are some of our favorite resources for online workouts:
Tracy Campoli
Tracy has a wide variety of workouts that range from HIIT to pilates to yoga. We love the variety that she offers, as well as her monthly calendar that plans it all out for you. All of her workouts can be done in your apartment, with little room, and in only 30 minutes a day. Tracy is bubbly, encouraging, funny, and realistic. We always want to come back for more.
Yoga Today
Yoga Today gives you access to hundreds of yoga classes shot in natural studios around the world. The classes are simply stunning. They offer tons of different class options and truly have something for everyone – beginners, advanced, weight loss, athlete recovery, anxiety, etc. The list goes on and on. They also have meditations that you can access just as easily as the yoga classes. The best part? Yoga Today offers a free 14-day trial for new subscribers.
Melissa Wood Health
Melissa is a ray of sunshine, and her workouts are too. All are pilates based and focus on creating “long, lean, lines”. They are perfect for days that we crave gentle, yet powerful movement. We always finish feeling better than when we started.
Tone it Up
The Tone it Up girls have the best personality. Karena and Katrina, the founders and head trainers, are funny, encouraging, uplifting, and so much fun to workout with. Tone it Up has tons of free content on their YouTube channel, and a cost-friendly app that is constantly updated with new fitness content.
PopSugar Fitness
The PopSugar Youtube channel is the mecca. It has hundreds of class videos with the most recognized fitness instructors in the world, for free! Their class selection is all over the map with everything from ballet to HIIT to pilates to cardio. There is no doubt that you will be able to find something that you like here.
While there are so many Activitys that you can do without any equipment at all (including many of the videos from our favorites above!), a few tools here and there can really amp up an already good workout.
Here are our favorite pieces of Activity equipment that your apartment needs:
Yoga Mat
A yoga mat is an essential apartment workout tool. We use ours for yoga, stretching, meditation, strength training, cardio, etc. Whether we are doing crunches, planks, squats, or hitting child’s pose, the yoga mat is there supporting us.
Resistance Band
Resistance bands are super lightweight and take up minimal space, making them perfect for an apartment. They require no floor space and can be grabbed in a second with no setup. Bands are also incredibly versatile. We use them for arms, abs, booty, legs and stretching.
Jump Rope
Ok, so maybe we don’t want to use this inside our apartment, but it still makes the list due to its ability to be stored basically anywhere. It takes up barely any space at all. You can also walk right outside and use it almost anywhere, anytime. It gets that heart rate up in no time, making us sweat without even walking down the block. Traveling? Throw it in your suitcase and never have an excuse to not get a good sweat in.
Kettlebell
Kettlebell Activitys are amazing for revving that metabolism back up and increasing lean muscle tissue and bone mass. What we love most about them is that they can be used in a traditional kettlebell Activity, or simply as a weight, just like a dumbbell. When space is an issue, this is a win-win. They are easy to incorporate into your routine because of their versatility. The kettlebell swing incorporates strength training and cardio, with very little impact on the joints. Sound appealing yet? You can check out our article here for a complete kettlebell workout routine that you’ll really feel the next day.
Hand Weights
Hand weights are perfect for taking a workout to the next level with a little extra resistance. You can store them under your bed, on your shelf, on your shoe rack, wherever you have the space! And of course, these little weights are incredibly adaptable – bicep curls, tricep kickbacks, squats, lunges, crunches, etc. The little bit of extra weight can make a big difference.
An apartment workout can be easier (and more convenient) than you thought. We can feel it now.
